This Fender '51 P Bass re-issue looks just like the original '51. It
has the "Tele type" headstock, reverse tuners, one piece maple neck,
small vintage frets, squared-off body, black single layer pickguard,
dome-top knobs, feed-thru 2 saddle bridge, and a repro single coil
vintage style pickup. Though this looks authentic, there are some
minor differances from the REAL original. The neck is closer to a B
width (1 5/8") and a good bit slimmer than some of the '50s "baseball
bat" necks. The output jack is mounted on a metal plate instead in a
recessed cup, no chrome covers,... etc. This bass is light with good
balance, has great sustain and produces a very clear, somewhat bright
sound - yet delivers a deep powerful tone as well. Odly enough, it is
lounder than any of my other Precisions! I found it a little
uncomfortable at first because of the lack of forearm bevel and waist
cut, but as the weeks go by I find that to be less of an issue. Since
this is the first bass I've owned with a maple fingerboard (one piece
neck) and the first string-thru bridge I'm wondering if this is why
this bass has so much tone, attack and sustain...but in any case, I
really love playing this '51 P Bass! The sound seems to really cut
through. I can't wait to play it in a live band situation...I may
become devoted!
