Do you crave that "growl" you get from an old Jazz Bass? If so, then you'll have to get one from the '60s or early '70s. I've had one for 23 years and it has the best tone (for my ears) of any bass I've ever played.

The neck tends to shift a little when I take it on jobs, so I usually use another axe, but in warm weather it seems OK.

I have better playing instruments; most new basses are. But in my book, tone is King. And this '65 Jazz Bass has the tone.

Construction 95%
Playability 85%
Appearance 100%
Sound 125%
Value 50%
Despite the tone, I'd NEVER pay what these things
now bring (of course, I paid $350 for mine in
'76, which included a Bassman amp with 2 12s)
Overall 125%
(tone is King)
