It's hard to beat a 65 p-bass. I've had to change the tuners,bridge,p/u etc do to wear but the sound is in the wood and your hands anyway. I own this bass and a 69 jazz and I've found nothing else that compares. The new ones bite, other than the re-issues. Find an old fender and buy it. You will thank yourself and so will your drummer.
