This bass is the second I have owned. The first was a Peavey $50 "cheese bass", so really a 2x4 with strings would play better than that thing.

That said, this is a very solid playing and feeling bass. It may be a little heavy, but I am a big guy, so it's not really that much of a problem. The reinforced maple neck is solid as a rock, and is very fast. However, I did have to sand down the back of the neck twice with 240 grit and 320 grit sandpaper. After I did that, the neck was smooth as silk.

The only bad thing about this bass is the electronics. The two J pickups don't really emphasize the low end for me at least. I really hate sharp, bright tones. If you're like me, you might want to consider replacing the electronics in this bass, maybe with active EMG's or something.

All that aside though, the jazz bass is THE standard for bass guitars, and everyone should have one. Whether you play slap, plectrum (pick), fingered, get one! At least as a backup, if not as your main bass.
