Like most people, I have never given peavey much credit in regards to making high end basses. I was pleasantly surprised however by the quality of the my Cirrus 6. I didn't plan on buying a Peavey but it ended up beating out the other basses I was looking at as a back-up (Yamaha RBXJM6 and Ibanez1206). The bubinga top and walnut body and neck provide great midrange punch and clarity with the exception of the lower B string notes. Some EMG's should help out in that department. To their credit the pickups and EQ circuit are very quiet. The bass is well made overall, but what makes it not quite great are the small details. The fret ends were not filed well enough and there were several file marks on the side of the fingerboard. The neck could have been glued a little more neatly in place as well. The frets are well seated and I had no problem with getting an extremely low action with no fret buzz. The wood itself used to make the bass is very beautiful. This bass is very light for a neck through 6 and is easily playable up to the 24th fret.

In a band situation the Peavey doesn't cut through the mix like my Spector but I think the EMG's will help that. A nice abalone inlay at the 12th fret is a great artistic touch. For $1200 bucks I am very pleased with this bass and I would recommend it to anyone looking to save some money without sacrificing quality or tone
