What can I say?... I set out to buy a "backup" 5 string to add to my collection. After spending the day looking through all the local music stores trying out numerous basses, I finally came across the above mentioned axe. First off, WOW, this thing looks amazing! But what really won me over where the small differences. This is my second venture into the "5 string" market, I bought a Fender Jazz V DLX a few years back and after the initial novelty wore off, I found that I really hadn't spent enough time researching my purchase. So I ended up selling it 6 months after due to a lacklustre B string. So now 2 years later, I finally decided to plunge back in. First off, the 35" scale lenght...HUGE difference! Even after restringing it with the lightest strings I could find (need to get used to the scale lenght) it still sounded tight, punchy and well defined. Another of the little touches: the bridge allows you to string through the body or the back end of the bridge. Also worth mentioning is the versatility of the instrument, I usually don't like neck throughs for slapping but this thing slaps like a dream and the scalloped bottom horn makes pops a breeze (as well as giving great access to the upper frets!) The only thing I would have to sya didn't impress me was the quality of the fret dress, a few of the frets needed to be re-dressed on the bottom portion of the neck. As far as the sound goes, no complaints but I am considering adding a preamp in the next little while to make it even more versatile. And for the price I paid for this used bass (approx 225$ US) I couldn't go wrong. I would have to say that if I lost it somehow, I would surely be out the next day looking for another one!
