When I got this bass, I had spent half a day in the store, having tried everything ... including that kooky Dingwall "fan-fret" bass ... which, believe it or not is really easy to play.
I had narrowed my choice down to this Pedulla or a Musicman Sterling. I knew I wanted a single-humbucker "funk-flavored" bass. Truthfully, I wanted them both! Construction-wise, they're both very similar, but the Pedulla seemed to have the edge on workmanship ... and the neck seemed more finely constructed.
The Bartolini soapbar pickup really barks and sounds evil when you crank up the low mids at your amp. Seemed like a perfect blend of that woody P-bass sound, and the Musicman sound.
The bass is a work of art to look at ... the pickguard takes on a "wave" shape that gives the bass a "yin-yang" vibe. And there's only three knobs. I love simple basses that don't have a lot of knobs. I HATE switches of any sort on a bass, but I put up with the mid switch on this one, only because it's all the way at the bottom of the pickguard, out of the way, and because it adds a nice wide attack that's really great in certain musical settings. Mostly, I keep the switch "off" because I like the humbucking grind.
I generally am not into sunburst finishes, but the bass has a matching headstock, so I can tolerate it a bit more than normal.
Great bass!
