First let me begin by saying that the other reviews, with exception to the short scale version of these strings, are completely incorrect. These strings are fantastic!- the best available. I say the other reviews are incorrect because the reviewers are obviously ignorant of flatwound strings. Its not their fault, they\'re probably just a bit too young to remember the good \'ol days. In order to have a true vintage tone, you must have pure nickel flatwound strings and these are it. Stainless steel is a modern day thing and can\'t give you that deep bottom like these. These Pyramids are just like the strings you would have purchased in the 50\'s, 60\'s, and 70\'s. I cannot have any brightness in my strings whatsoever, therefore stainless steel just won\'t do. I hate \'em. I need nickel flatwounds for that deep, rich, beautiful bass tone I strive for. I\'m a traditionalist. I wasn\'t even aware that nickel flats were still being made. When I found out about these, I was ecstatic and had to have them immediatly. $50 is well worth it, they\'ll last forever. I still know guys who are still using the same set of nickel flats from 30 years ago! I am using these on my Fender Precision bass and I\'m just having a ball. They are very smooth and the playability is great and the tone...well just listen to some old 45s. These are essential for anyone in search of that beautiful, warm bass tone from yesteryear. I also recommend Rotosound\'s black nylon bass stings. They\'re great too.
