This rugged 18V box is a hi-quality practice headphone amp that also works as a gigging preamp in a pinch. (Use aux out and mix in for an EFX loop). Great sound, especially with piezo-equipped instruments. In addition to solid-body basses, I use it with an Eminence portable upright bass and a Carvin AC175 guitar and I like the sound of these instruments better through the PHA-1 and headphones than any amp!

The EQ section is very musical and sounds good on a variety of settings. No "harsh" sounds here. As far as I can tell, the PHA-1 is completely noiseless. It's the perfect tool for silently practising with CDs.

Suggestions: an XLR out and a lower price. Everyone should be able to afford one of these! I suppose one could replace the PHA-1's functions with a cheap mixer, but this box can't be beat for ease of use and great sound.
