I now own 5 Roscoe's and one 5. I have owned 10 Roscoe basses that spanned a construction era of 10 years.
My latest purchase reviewed here is the third bass that Keith Roscoe has sent me direct I brought the other basses from dealers or used I pre paid for the SKB 3006 and went for all the standard upgrades, exhibition top wood, upgrade Barts 3 way.
I recieved the bass with body stain rub thru's that were clear coated over. If you have rub thru's you have to fix them at the stain stage not clear coat over them. and the headstock faceplate wood was flame maple sprayed, in color to match the Burl Maple top. Exhibition BUrl body with a matching flame maple headstock?
Keith told me to send the bass back and that he would fix the rub thru's (they are fixed and the finish on this bass is now flawless and beautiful) and replace the headstock wood to match the body. I offered to send the veneer and to pay for the work of replacing the headstock wood to match the body.
Well the headstock wood has the lightest figured burl you'll never seen and does not match the body wood at all, so Keith Roscoe says if I don't like it "sell the bass on E Bay" now there is customer service for you.
After owning and dealing in so many Roscoe's I would reccommend the following: Buy used, Roscoe basses lose value on resale and used Roscoe's are usually well cared for they are built like tanks so they are usually in great shape used, for about $1,500. Judging from the ones I own the older ones have more attention to detail then the new ones. OR buy from a bigger dealer, Bass NW, Giampetro, Bass Alone, they get basses better made then when you order direct and their prices are cheaper than when you buy direct from Keith Roscoe.
Man Roscoe Basses have the tone and some of them are awesome to look at but you need to see a pix before you buy, unless of course you like to lose money on new basses on E Bay. It appears to me that when I Read the Bass Player Magazine, January 1997 review of a Roscoe 5 some things never change, you decide before you lay out $2,500 of your hard earned dough.
