I have the P width neck which is fatter than Sadowsky's J neck especially at the nut; the fingerboard profile feels a bit flatter (less radius) than my Sadowsky 4 string jazz bass. The bass is a breeze to play; don't let my initial description scare you.

The tone is great: I love the combined pup setting and solo'd P pickup. It's quite a bit darker sounding with more mids than my swamp ash + maple board Sadowsky J bass: this PJ is much warmer due to the woods. Hence, I have to alter the tone settings on my Kern preamp to get the tones I like but....WHAT TONES! Truly wonderful and incredibly sweet ear candy.

I was after tones I hard on Wooten's "A Show of Hands." I know he plays a Fodera PJ but I really love the work, tones, and support I get with Sadowsky. Hence I ordered this PJ4 and it delivers. And it is so dramatically different feeling and playing than my J bass that they are worlds apart in that regard. But in terms of playability, tone, workmanship, quiet massively simple and effective preamp, they are similar and reaffim my belief that for my ears, hands, and eyes, SADOWSKY IS IT!

(I did try a Wooten Foder model a few years ago: great bass but definitely heavier than my Sadowsky. Different woods with mahogany body on the Fodera.)

I think this bass is a very good value. It's not cheap but it's not as expensive as othe high end like Fodera or some Alembics, etc. But since it will keep my happy for years if not decades, it's a no brainer. I bought my first Sadowsky in 1990 and it's still with me and makes me verrrrrrry happy.
