These replaced the stock pickups in my Mexican Fender P, so keep in mind that I'm comparing them to cheap pickups. I was looking for a fuller, bigger sound than I had. Seymour Duncan described them as "warm, ultra fat and punchy." That sounded like what I wanted, so I went for it.

The pickups had a lot more punch and body than the old ones. I was worried they might sound muddy, but they didn't; the top end was much smoother, and there was enough of it to keep them from sounding muffled. The low end is thicker and tighter, with more punch. I like the new sound of my bass even more than the more expensive Fenders. By comparison, the old pickups were empty and rough-sounding.

I've had one minor problem with the pickups. The pickup covers are what are screwed into the bass. The pickups themselves are held on top by the covers, and are held on bottom by strips of foam. My problem was, the foam under the E and A string half wasn't thick enough to hold the pickup up against the cover. When I tried to raise the pickup, the cover raised up but the pickup didn't. I solved this by taking the pickup out (but not unsoldering it) and putting in another piece of foam. I've had no other problems.

I'd recommend this pickups to any P-bass owner looking for a punchy, round sound. It doesn't have enough top end for a crisp slap tone, but that wasn't what I was looking for. I just love the big sound of my bass since I changed pickups.
