I have these strings in a Japanese Jazz Bass. Before this set i had a set of Nickel Rotosound 45-105. I was quite excited about trying stainless steel strings. I thought of Dean Markley, but i'd heard everything about them. Some people think they are the best, some others said that they were very dissapointed with them. But I had heard nothing about Ken Smith. I thought they couldn't be bad. So, i bought my set and installed it. I was amazed with the clarity and added punch I got with these stings!! The first week the strings werea bit too brilliant for me, and the pickups of the Jazz and its lightweight contributed too. I played the bass unplugged for a while and i was impressed with the gain in the volume. They brought new life to my bass. I liked the tone of the rotos, very classic, but they werent too versatile and they didnt last a lot. I wanted a change, a new sound, and I think i made a good choice. I think they are very good strings, and i'd reccomend them to anybody who needs a punchy tone, versatility and brilliance. If you like cassic tones, probably you wont like them, nickel strings are for you. By the way, the silks look great.
