My former preamp was a trace elliot GP11 preamp, and I was quite satisfied with it, only my slap sound was not the best, if there was no tweeter in the bass cab. And my main bass cab has no tweeter, I don't really like the sound of it. But how will I get the highs for the slap plucks? I was wondering a tube preamp would do that, because of the rich upper harmonics. But before I purchased a tube preamp, I tried out a Bass driver DI, which has an analog tube simulator. ...I bought one as soon I could. My dear trace is in a shop now, waiting for someone to buy. Wondering why do others put the bass driver DI to effects, actually it's a preamp. And the best I've ever played through. You can take your sound anywhere, and it makes any garbage amp sound like a dream. I don't really use the eq knobs, just a little, depends on tha place where I play, but I set the drive knob(which emulates the tube simulation) to half way, and my sound is as big, as rich -my bass cab has such slap sound, without tweeter, like marcus miller's, not joking!- like never before. And it's just a small box, you can carry everywhere, not a 30kg tube amp head. There are also many pros, which were already written here, I won't repeat them; and I don't see any cons.
