After a few shipping snags customer service fully refunded my shipping costs (Bonus point for customer service) Once I received the bass the first thing I noticed was the cheap looking fretboard. I figured you get what you pay for and for 249 bucks I could look past it.
The tone was clean and bright playing it without an amp even with the generic strings. I was stoked. Well I was stoked until I plugged it in ... playing through a GK Backline 112 this bass sounded pretty bad, nasal is the best word I could find. After fiddling with my amp and the bass for a while I got an ok tone, but minor adjustments on the pickup panning or either pickup's volume would generate a wicked hisssss. This type of noise is common with active pickups that have an open ground in the circuit. I inspected the circuitry and couldn?t find any obvious opens or damaged components. A quick email to customer support and they agreed the problem sounded like grounding problem and back in the box it went for a full refund.
I dropped by guitar center on the way home from work and picked up a Mexi P-Bass, which smokes. Reviewing P-Bass next...
