As Scotty said: "It's green". For those familiar with Trace Elliot ( and that particular Stat Trek episode ) you'll know what I mean.
Construction:
The housing is VERY solid (die cast?) which makes it "feel" more rugged than it is. Sadly, the controls are VERY loose (lots of play) and delicate. They seem to belong on the face of an amp, NOT on a stomp box. As rugged as this unit is, and its built like a tank, the controls need to be better protected or beefed up to prevent damage. For that reason alone I set this thing on top of my amp, otherwise, it would be rugged enough to kick down the block. The battery compartment is narrow and somewhat difficult to change out the two nine-volt batteries required.
Electronics:
INPUT control w/LED (green, yellow, red level indicator); LOW COMPRESSION control, EQ BALANCE control (adds more overall lows or highs as desired), HIGH COMPRESSION control and finally OUTPUT control. Two switches (very quiet) for EFFECT BYPASS and HI COMP BYPASS (LED indicators for both) and, of course, input and output (1/4 inch). This is a fine and very necessary addition to my signal chain. I've used compressors before and I've always liked them, but they seemed "breathy" and the higher the compression settings were the more the sound became squashed. This not the case with this one. This unit offers seperate low end compression and high end compression which smoothely brings out the best.
As far as bass accesories designed to make obvious "color" changes to the sound (ie chorus) this pedal does not do that. The effect of this unit is not noticeable...That is until its not there! This unit has a subtle, yet very important impact on my sound. With it I can coax some great sounds out of my rig that cut through the mix, especially at volumes. Without it, at the same levels, my rig sounds like crap. Muddy and clipping. I sometimes take this compressor for granted, and like I said, it's not an 'obvious' effect, but I sure can tell when its NOT there! A good sign that this comp is doing it's job well!
