Purchased this bass about a year and a half ago from Bass Alone in San Diego for a great price. Having read/heard about Tune's reputation, I decided to take the leap.

Overall Construction: VERY solidly constructed bass. Very lightweight and well-built. For as lightweight as it is, it still seems heavy-duty in terms of quality of construction. Th neck is nicely fitted into the body and there appear to be no construction flaws.

Neck: VERY narrow neck, top to bottom. To be honest, it's too narrow for my tastes, but no matter. It just doesn't feel terribly substantial. Has an ebonol, unlined fretboard which is bullet-proof. You can put rounds on this thing without worrying a bit. I would, however, recommend flatwounds for the reason below.

Electronics: Active preamp and hot jazz pickups. The tone is very distinctive and this is where the bass truly becomes a matter of taste. For a fretless, the preamp and pickups provide too much treble and growl for my tastes - not a mellow fretless tone, frankly. To remedy this, put some flatwounds on it. With this preamp, you won't get lost in the mix, trust me.

Hardware: VERY solid ghardware, starting with a heavy-duty Tune bridge which features nice rolling saddles. The Tuners are gotoh-like and very high quality. All other hardware is top notch.

Overall: VERY well built, solid, high-quality bass. My only issues with it are the extremely narrow neck and the growling, trebly electronics. The former may appeal to some folks. The latter can be remedied by strings.

These are somewhat hard to find, but do NOT be fooled by the many knockoffs which have hit the market. I think Tune sold some rights to The Bass Company as they are now making a Maniac knockoff, as are several other off-brand companies. If you want a Tune Bass Maniac, you have to buy a TUNE Bass Maniac. It has been copied, but never replicated.
