I recently heard about a guy named Martin who was making these
aluminum-neck basses. After chatting with him on e-mail, I approached him
about making an aluminum neck for an old Fender copy I have. Needless to
say, I was greatly impressed by the sound change. Since the frets and
fingerboarda re one piece of aluminum, there is no fret-buzz at all! The
sound was extremely clearer than the old neck. And I noticed that I had an
easier time gliding over strings and playing faster lines with it. The nut
is graphite, which also helped in the tone. The biggest advantage is that
there is an extra "OOMPH!" behind every note now.
Although it's around $350 (more to get the spaces between the frets
painted), the Violette neck is the perfect neck for any style and will
greatly enhance your Fender.
