I purchased this Warmoth P Bass neck and painted body from their "sale" web page a little apprehensively since I couldn't play it first. I did go over their comprehensive catalog though and the order taker on their phone line was very helpful. The neck and body arrived and were very impressive in terms of quality and appearance. The local music shop repairman informed me that the maple fingerboard necks on Warmoth necks are varnished right over the frets and the varnish has to be removed from the frets. I gather Warmoth assumes you already know this as far as the finishing and setup goes. The Fender bridge, nut and tuners went on fine although the nut was not quite as wide as the neck by a skooch. I tried a Duncan P bass Hot pup and although it was fine it just didn't click. After a call to the fine folks at Guitar Villa I ordered a Bartolini Deep Bass tone P bass .... bingo! The name describes the sound; deep tone and a very nicely made piece of hardware.I skipped the tone cap and hooked it up. I have a really good cherry American Standard 1999 P bass and this Warmoth is better. Still has a buzz at the 4th and 9th fret on the G string though.
