Key to the sound is Quadrumatrix (4-way rotary control), that changes basic EQcurves of sound (valves). First with somehow boosted bass and highs and somehow scooped mids. Very warm sounding. Second is flat. In the path of third and fourth is "power valve" involved, so the sound gets a bit rougher. Third one is almost flat with slightly boosted mids and mid-highs, reminding me of the SVT sound, fourth with massively boosted bass and highs and scooped mids (classic smile curve), sounding quite brutal to my ears, very heavy sound. As I play (or trying to) mainly jazz, blues and rock, I use mostly second and third position (especially when playing old stuff like Hendrix and the Zeppelin with my custom f-less 5 with single Kent Armstrong humbucker right to the PA, it sounds great). Sound is very clean, sound engineers always very appreciate simplicity of signal path. I do not use EQsystem, let everything "flat" and Bass and Hi boost switches off, although EQ system is very powerful. Great for recording! Pros: very versatile, clean sound from Hi-Fi to Heavy. Easy to use. Cons: Quadrumatrix is not footswitchable, distortion knob is quite useless, it only eats the sound. To sum up: I am very happy with this purchase.
